Witch Hazel for our first born …and for pollinators

Reflective of the emotional reason for plant choices in a garden (we were commemorating a November birthday, when this tree’s blooms sparkle) as well as the ecological ones – Witch Hazel supports valuable pollinators (such as late-season bees and moths), we selected the native WITCH HAZEL, Hamamelis virginiana, to ‘REP’ our front yard shrub-layer selection. An up-close photo from this tree, planted 14 years ago, in a front area corner of of our yard, from this past November (blooming on Georgie’s b-day).
Also, you’ll find Witch Hazels as the dominant tree in the Indiana Dunes State Park, TRAIL 8, it’s beauty and blooms, spellbinding as ever.
