Community Greening, Giving Back
Our company’s owners live in a sweet residential setting, with nearby pocket parks and some mature street trees. However, this in-town neighborhood was in need of greater investment of street trees, and both Julia and Daniel have been active community tree-planting advocates for our neighborhood. Starting in 2013, we nudged City leaders with a request to the Shade Brigade initiative, for 30 donated street trees. Because of their hardiness and the care from our community volunteers, all 30 trees are still alive and thriving, nearly a decade later. Also, in 2019 and 2020, we applied for and received 2 grants through NIRPC’s CommuniTree Program, with trees planted near our elementary and middle schools. None of this could be achieved with out the tremendous help of our neighbors and friends, who eagerly volunteered their time and help with planting and ongoing care. We all know the benefits trees provide, cleaning air and curbing climate change, but our particular push for native, Midwestern trees, also means that these trees are supporting precious wildlife, as well.
