I spy with my little eye… astilbes and …
With this week’s frigid cold temps, I’m turning to some favorite garden snaps for comfort. Few images make me happier than seeing my sweet pup, Percy, sheltering among some of my favorite Astilbes, called Maggie Daley (after Chicago Mayor Daley’s late wife). This section of perennials in my own backyard seems to bloom and perform as if on steroids – with minimal fuss from us. Why such planting success with these astilbes? It’s due to the initial dump of homemade compost originally installed here, enriching and fortifying the soil; and making Percy a happy pup.
